Wow! What an Olympic Games! And in four years time, the biggest cultural and sporting event that we are ever likely to witness in our lifetimes will be happening less than an hour away in London!
The aim of the Kent 20 in 12 Learning programme is to ensure that every child and young person in Kent has the opportunity to engage in educational experiences that relate to the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
What we would like, is that when London 2012 begins, every child and young person in Kent will be legitimately able to say; I was involved, this is what I achieved.
The Kent 20 in 12 Learning Programme is designed to complement the National Olympic Education Programme.
The central idea is that the London Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012 will be used to inspire learning across the curriculum for children and young people in Kent.
It is a learning programme for the whole curriculum; it is not just for PE and school sport.
Each year, five learning themes will be selected as a stimulus for cross curricular learning projects and collaborations; the projects will be carried out in schools and settings or in partnerships across the County.
There is the exciting potential for cross-phase collaboration as education settings from the early years through to higher education will be involved.
Following the fantastic achievements of Team GB in the Olympic Games, and the formal handover of the Olympic Flag to London, it is time to begin thinking about perhaps the most exciting sporting and cultural event to take place in our life time.
The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are an exciting opportunity to engage children and young people, involving them in the lead up to the Games, and ensuring that they feel part of the event. We cannot afford to let such an opportunity pass by.
