Pluckley Primary School Pupils Tour the Olympic Park!

3 November 2011

Lucky students from Pluckley Primary School have enjoyed a once in a lifetime experience and visited the Olympic Park, thanks to their green achievements and dedication to sustainability.

EDF Energy is using the inspirational qualities of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to inspire young people to bring environmental issues to life and work towards creating a sustainable legacy for the Games. The “Pod”, part of the Get Set Programme, is an online education initiative that provides guidance and information to help schools cut their carbon footprint and save energy. Pluckley School have used the “Pod” resources to promote recycling, grow their own vegetables and to develop a nature/ pond area within their grounds. They then used these initiatives to support their application to be part of the Get- Set Network.

In recognition of these achievements EDF Energy awarded Pluckley five sets of tickets to visit the Olympic Park and the London Eye. They were able to see the Velodrome, the Olympic Stadium, the International Broadcast Centre and the Athletes’ Village during a fun filled personal tour.

Kerry Sheldrick, a teacher from the school said “We had a great time. The children were glued to the bus windows at the Park and were particularly impressed by “The Pringle”, otherwise known as the Velodrome. The whole experience really made the Olympics come alive for the children and they can’t wait to tune in next year and say “I was there”
