A Kent School has won £1000 and access to professional film production support as part of a nationwide competition to support community change! Students from The Astor of Hever Community School in Maidstone, a member of the Get Set Network, took part in BT’s “Big Voice” competition on behalf of their school.
The “Big Voice” competition is one of three educational programmes run by BT with links to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Entrants were asked to produce film ideas which emphasised issues of concern in their local area based around two questions:
The Astor of Hever Community School’s submission focused on stereotyping and highlights how varying tastes and styles can impact on young peoples’ lives. The school now also qualifies for up to £5,000 and guidance from Unltd, a support charity for social entrepreneurs, to transform their visions into a reality for the local community.
The top films from all over the UK will be chosen to go through to the final stage of the competition, an Oscars inspired event to announce winners in the lead up to the 2012 Games. The final film will then be screened at live sites, including Dover, during Spring 2012.
